Ps1 Ppf
I've been wanting to try some different FFT mods but I've found running the latest Windows 10 that PPF-O-Matic just seems to sit there forever applying a patch. I've tried multiple patches and multiple ISOs. If I quit the patch prematurely and then test out the patched product it will have problems like missing sprites. I've tried compatibility settings and running it as Administrator. Anyone encounter this before?
The PPF patch file is often associated with updating video game ROMs. The file type is not unique to the Playstation although it was first developed for the Playstation. The Windows program PPF Studio can create the files and PPF-O-Matic opens them. PPF files can be used to patch ISO disc images. Tool to patch files (iso, pkg, pup, any) using ppf patches.
All my Windows machines are 10 so I was thinking of just making a VM with Windows XP (like the XP Mode download available from Microsoft).Darn, I'm getting the same problem from virtualized Windows XP. Must be the FFT image I'm using. I think I originally used rips from my actual discs but I lost the rips and didn't want to dig the discs out of storage.Edit: Seems it was just the speed of the patcher. I had waited up to 10 minutes in the past on a 7200RPM HDD but after moving it to a SSD the thing finally completed in about 5 minutes. Krause nutrition book latest version. That's one slow patcher! Emuparadise was actually where I got the first image.
Not sure what's up with PPF-O-Matic: the reason I didn't just leave it overnight is because I was watching the activity in Task Manager and Resmon and didn't see anything for the program after a few minutes (watching it for several minutes), though the program was technically still responsive (it just kept saying it was still applying the patch). Likely something was blocking it in a way this old program couldn't deal with-it doesn't even come with a progress indicator-but I don't know why it'd also do this on a virtualized Windows XP install.
Sometimes too much knowledge of troubleshooting can be a dangerous thing. Anyway, instead of asking that my thread be deleted I thought I might keep it up in case someone else encounters this.
