March 18, 2008 at 07:50 PM The piano score suggestion often works, but many times the violist is jumping between bass and treble clef, which can quickly get confusing if you're not doing it all the time. Or teh part is not obviously broken up into 4 clean parts. As the violist in a heavily booked quartet, I often take the 15 minutes it takes to scribble out the viola part. It has the benefits of letting me make sure the harmonies get covered, being a lot easier to read, and not having to shuffle a multi-page piano score.
March 20, 2008 at 02:44 AM I would get my hands on a copy of 'The Beatles Complete Scores' (Hal Leonard/Wise Publications) and a copy of the original recording. Then I'd get some blank staff paper (or music notation software) and get busy. You're going to wind up with a much better arrangement than anything you're going to find available commercially. It will be the length (elapsed time) you want and it will be as easy or as difficult as your particular quartet can handle. You'll lose some hours of practice or leisure time and have a lot of fun (hopefully). Plus, you'll get a good feeling every time you play it.First, find someone with the book-try guitarists/teachers for starters.
