I can't get Windows 7 x64 Ultimate to partition my drive as GPT with the Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition motherboard and a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB. Some background: A few days ago I had the Rampage IV Extreme ( non-black edition) motherboard with all the same hardware and I WAS able to successfully get the windows 7 install to create the three partitions on the disk. Typical installs of Windows 7 on gpt drives convert drive to MBR, but leave backup gpt table. Then Ubuntu install will not work as you have mixed MBR & gpt. That is usually easily fixed with Rod Smith's fixparts program.

I have a Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard which has a uefi bios with mouse interface. I have a 1 TB HDD on which I am trying to install Windows 7 x64. I have converted the partition to GPT using diskpart.But when I try to install, I get the error 'windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style'.
I cant get my dvd drive to boot in uefi mode even though the usb drive can. But I dont have a win 7 usb bootable. So how do I boot my dvd drive in UEFI to install win 7 on a gpt hdd. The UEFI shell also returns empty in the bios.
I did try to let windows format it,but it seems to format it as MBR by default as the DVD drive boots in non uefi mode. So I will try a different SATA controller or boot via USB. ThanksOkay, looks like I was slightly wrong on the GPT thing.

Here:So it seems like you need to be in UEFI mode, so I guess you need to read the motherboard manual carefully to make sure you've set everything correctly in the BIOS to ensure that.That looks like good information on how to boot Windows 7 in UEFI or bios mode. I didnt know the files on the CD mattered.
